We have designed logos consistent with the concept of smart mobility that bring together the apps of the Municipality of Bolzano-Bozen: icons devised to be instantly comprehensible and capable of rapidly pointing people in the direction of the desired service.
Logos that talk
A "patchwork" family
The client’s wish was to imagine a communicative solution able to cope with any extensions to the services available to citizens. For this reason, we created logos that can stand alone and communicate effectively both on their own and seen within the context of all the services. The communicative code chosen created a modular family capable of maintaining consistency and clarity should new services be developed.
Wireframe and design
Each app has been analysed down the the last detail: the functioning, users’ potential requests, answers to queries. We paid great attention to analysing the stages of use and how to pass information on to the client in the simplest and most intuitive way possible. Using the wireframe tool before starting the design process, we studied the various stages and created a framework common to all the various apps in terms of interface and common interaction: we were thus able to optimise any future updating measures.
Car parks: BZ parking
Knowing how and where to park in a city is time-sensitive information: you have to understand quickly and at a glance, because you are often already sitting in the car. For this reason, we worked on the interface of the ‘BZ parking’ app, making it easy to understand, with dual visualisation of where the free parking spaces in Bolzano-Bozen are in both list and map form. We developed the static template code in responsive mode so that every device may use the app. Back-end implementation was managed by IDM Südtirol and ethical software.
The app data are free and available to all: for this reason, the ‘share’ button, contained in each one, allows the spreading of information on social networks or the inclusion of the app function on your own website with a widget.
Public transport: BZ Bus
Intelligent mobility exploits data to enable people to choose the best means of transport for a single journey. It is from this principle, for example, that apps allowing the visualisation of the movements of public transport in real time, such as BZ Bus, are derived. We devised the interface using experience gained working on an analogue app project – Bus Merano. The data in real time are supplied by SASA BZ.
Traffic flow: BZ Traffic
Knowing what the traffic situation is like in real time is vital for getting around quickly and keeping pollution levels down. This is what BZ Traffic app does, offering a 24-hour forecast of the flow of traffic, too. Using mobile devices, it is possible to mark your position in the city to understand how to best reach your desired destination. There is also the option of seeing how long the journey would take by bike – a green option involving no traffic jams.
